According to a recent announcement of ETA, R&D on electronic automotive colored glass has made a significant breakthrough recently. The color of the car window can be changed with just one press of a small button. The revolutionary technology can be applied to any car manufacture and model, changing the previous coloring technology fundamentally.
The essential of the technology lies in the ultra-thin glass membrane sandwiched between the two automotive glass sheets. With the glass membrane, conducting particles can stay in suspension and they are luminous if there is no electric current flowing through, but the particles will be lined up when electric current passes through. By controlling the current, the color of glass can be controlled as desired.
The new technology brings various benefits. First of all, time and costs for coloring is significantly reduced and service life of the glass is extended. Additionally, it can prevent damages to skin and decorations in the car caused by ultraviolet rays. The new technology is expected to be applied in automobile manufacture in the near future.
